Faxing over there internet includes a lot of the same principals as a regular facsimile transmission. However one party is uses a web interface instead of a fax machine, this is also a much more inexpensive method. Internet fax services will assign a subscriber with his or her own unique number. The subsciber would then scan a document into their computer or even create one using a program such as Microsoft word. Sending a fax from your email is no harder then sending an email, here's how it's done.

  • Create a new email message.
  • In the "send to" field you would enter the fax number you are sending to at the name of your provider (example 18001234567@internetfax.com.)
  • Next attach the document you would like to fax, most companies support dozens of different file types.
  • Hit the send button thats it!
  • Your internet fax prover would then translate your document so it would be readable to fax machines.
  • It's then transmitted over telephone lines to the recipient.
  • The recipient fax machines decodes the data and prints the fax

So receiving a fax is using an internet fax provider is just the reverse.

  • Sender would dial the number your internet fax provider has assigned you.
  • Data is transmitted over telephone lines.
  • The fax provider converts that data into an image file.
  • You receive an email with the image file as an attachment.
