If you are looking to set up a website you will need to opt for some sort of hosting service that works in your best interests. There are a number of hosting services to choose from. Amongst them is the dedicated service which also goes by the name of managed dedicated service. In this service you will be leasing an entire server which will not be shared with anyone.

It has been observed that dedicated hosting is far more flexible than its alternative shared hosting. Through dedicated servers you will have far greater control over all the major aspects associated with the use of the server. Dedicated hosting also gives you the freedom to choose the operating system that you would like to run as well as the hardware and other related things.

Dedicated servers are for specific uses. Primarily it is best for those websites that have extensive traffic. Specifically speaking when a website is likely to have lots of users at the same time it is best that it makes use of a dedicated server. Common examples of the kinds of websites that are on dedicated servers are mail servers, extensive ecommerce websites, virtual universities and other such busy websites. The reason behind this choice is that dedicated servers provide their clients with huge Bandwidth and Web Space.

There are different scenarios under the umbrella of dedicated hosting. If the server is located in the administration area of the website physically then it will be referred to as a Co-Location Server. In other cases a physical server may be divided into multiple virtual servers and this is known as VPS. Such servers are more apt to give a better performance and greater control than a shared hosting account.

VPS accounts will be able to offer you almost the same features of dedicated server in terms of functionality and autonomy. Such accounts are also very suitable for a wide range of applications such as testing and developing applications, high traffic websites, hosting and domain resellers or game serving.

Although VPS will mean that a server has been sliced up into different virtual servers for different clients it will still make each user feel as if their on a dedicated server. In reality however they will be sharing the server with many other customers. VPS hosting is secure and stable and at the same time it is extremely flexible especially when compared with shared hosting. You will find many small ecommerce websites, email services and reseller hosting services to choose VPS over other forms of hosting services.

On the other hand dedicated hosting services give you complete control over all the aspects of the server. However the server does not become the ownership of the user. Such a hosting service comes in very handy for those websites that have extensive traffic, online product seller sites, data base intense websites etc.

Making a choice between the different hosting services depends upon the kind of website that you will be running. Hence it is important to analyze the benefits of the different kinds of hosting services available and choose the one that works out best for you.
